TRGP worked with Elderhostel Inc, to produce a live video webcast of their program “Mount Rushmore: The Wisdom of our Fathers.” Elderhostel, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that provides learning programs in more than 90 countries for adults over 55 years of age. The event took place on location at the Mount Rushmore monument in South Dakota, and was viewed by a live studio audience, as well as internet audiences around the United States.
Presidential scholars and impersonators of the four great American President’s which grace the monument, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln played a key role in the webcast. They stayed in character as they presented stories, initiated discussions on their historical significance, and fielded policy questions from the audience about current issues facing the country. The program was facilitated by Presidential Scholar Dr. Meena Bose of Hofstra University, who discussed the context and impact that each of the Presidents represented.
TRGP videotaped the 2-day seminar in front of a live audience on October 23-24, 2008, and streamed the event as a webcast over the internet to 20 Elderhostel locations throughout the country. A total of 2,000 Elderhostlers viewed the webcast. Webcast viewers also had the opportunity to e-mail questions for the program participants. TRGP also produced an hour-long highlight DVD of program, allowing for Elderhostel to repeat the Mount Rushmore presentation at later dates around the country.
