Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's Renewable Energy Trust (MTC)
The Challenge:
Although clean energy is here, works, and there’s an unlimited supply, the
Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s Renewable Energy Trust (MTC) wanted to
increase the number of Massachusetts residents that support clean energy
funding and technology, and wanted to educate people on the ways they can use
clean energy in their daily lives.
The Goals:
Primary: To educate people living in Massachusetts about clean energy
technologies available to them, and about the MTC in general.
Secondary: To cultivate relationships with companies/organizations in
Massachusetts in the clean energy/environmental field.
Tertiary: To maintain relationships with stakeholders in Massachusetts
(i.e. various local, state, and national elected officials)
The Solution:
The Rendon Group worked with the MTC to create and coordinate a series of five
events across the state of Massachusetts called The Clean Energy Tour: Boston to
the Berkshires . TRG worked with the MTC to identify five targeted
areas within the state that would allow the MTC to reach a large number of
people that would be receptive to their message. Once the geographic locations
were identified, TRG worked with the MTC to identify existing events within
those areas that would reach their target audience.
MTC exhibits at the following events came together to create The Clean Energy
Tour:
-
Tour
kick-off event at the New England Aquarium
-
Lowell Folk Festival
-
Barnstable County Fair
-
A day at Brockton High School
-
Columbus Day weekend at Mass MoCA
TRG worked with the MTC to retrofit a large trailer to create an educational
experience on wheels, that hosted groups of people for educational video and
speaking presentations about various types of clean energy technologies.
Bearing in mind that some people need incentive to participate in educational
programs, each person who saw a presentation was given a Clean Energy Tour
t-shirt upon exiting the trailer.
Children were also taught about clean energy through the Kids Club, a
component of the event that included coloring activities, pinwheel building,
and solar K’Nex.
Video Production:
The Rendon Group Productions created a series of educational videos for the Clean
Energy Tour. One of the videos provided viewers with a general overview
of clean energy and three others provided background information about the
various types of clean energy that are available for consumers. Overview

The Rendon Group Productions also documented each stop on the Tour on
video and created 30-mintue cable television shows that were distributed to MA
cable outlets to continue to educate residents about clean energy.
